Poland's Interior Minister, Mariusz Kamiński, announced today that the country will send 500 police officers to its border with Belarus. He wrote on Twitter, "Due to the tense situation at the border with Belarus, we have decided to strengthen our forces by deploying 500 police officers from the prevention and counter-terrorism units." He added, "They will join 5,000 border guard personnel and 2,000 soldiers securing the safety of this border."
Deputy Minister and Coordinator of Special Services Stanisław Żaryn stated that the security presence was also enhanced following the transfer of the Wagner Group to Belarus. He mentioned over the phone, "We are still in the phase of analysis and hypotheses regarding whether the Wagner Group will participate in destabilizing Poland or will be active in coordinating migration routes." He suggested, "We assume that the Wagner Group will not go to Belarus to recuperate but to carry out a mission. This mission could target Poland, and perhaps also Lithuania or Ukraine."
Additionally, the Polish border guard reported that 187 people attempted to illegally cross into Poland from Belarus yesterday.
