British police announced today, Saturday, the arrest of Daniel Khalife, who escaped from HMP Wandsworth on September 6. He was apprehended just before 11 AM in the Chiswick area and is currently in police custody. The Metropolitan Police thanked the public and media for their support with information and appeals.
Authorities in the UK have increased security patrols at border points to prevent Khalife from leaving the country, leading to long waits at the Port of Dover and delays for travelers at Heathrow and Gatwick airports. However, some sources suggested that Khalife may have already left the country.
In an interview with the BBC, former senior investigator Perry Benton from the London police stated, "Khalife carefully planned his escape," noting that "there are a number of routes he could have used to flee, including train stations and ports." It is believed that 21-year-old Daniel Khalife escaped from Wandsworth prison in South London around 7:50 AM.
Khalife had appeared in a London court on January 28 and was remanded in custody in connection with two incidents at a Royal Air Force base in Stamford, Central England, near the military barracks where he was residing. He is accused of "obtaining or attempting to obtain information likely to be useful to a person preparing for an act of terrorism while at the barracks in Central England in 2021, and concocting a bomb hoax by placing three devices with wires on a desk." He is also accused of obtaining information that may be "useful to an enemy, directly or indirectly."
