A spokesperson for the Ministry of Disaster Management in Afghanistan, Mohammad Shafi Rahimi, stated today, Sunday, that "at least 30 people have died in floods and torrents resulting from heavy seasonal rains that swept through homes and swept them away." Rahimi added, "26 people died in the Jalrez area, located 46 kilometers east of Kabul, after the rains swept away hundreds of houses, most of which were made of mud. Four others were killed in Kabul, and over 70 people were injured in both areas," noting that "at least 40 are missing." Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid issued a condolence message urging relief groups and Kabul authorities to assist the affected families. Last year's rainy season floods killed dozens in Afghanistan.
