The United States called today for a moment of silence at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva in honor of those killed in the attack by Hamas on Israel. Michelle Taylor, the US permanent representative to the council, stated, "The United States strongly condemns these heinous terrorist acts." She added, "We extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families and express our solidarity with Israel's government and people during these difficult times." During a meeting of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, the US also called for a moment of silence for the victims of the conflict in Israel and the earthquake in Afghanistan, with participation from everyone except a few delegates.
