New Strike Announced in Germany's Rail Sector

The German railway union "EVG" announced a new strike today, Thursday, lasting 50 hours, starting this Sunday and ending on Tuesday, as negotiations with Deutsche Bahn and 50 other companies in the rail sector regarding wage increases have made no progress. The strike is scheduled to begin at 20:00 GMT on Sunday and end at 22:00 GMT on Tuesday.

The EVG highlighted that the new strike "cannot be avoided" due to the slow progress of negotiations. For its part, Deutsche Bahn expressed dissatisfaction with this move, describing it as "inappropriate," stating that it has attempted to meet some of the union's demands by raising wages and proposed a 10% increase for workers with low to medium pay and an 8% increase for high earners, implementing these increases in stages.

The union, which is negotiating on behalf of 230,000 employees, including 180,000 working for Deutsche Bahn, is seeking a 12% wage increase or an increase of 650 euros (approximately 715 dollars) at a minimum per month.
