Emirates Airlines Operates First Test Flight Using Sustainable Fuel

Emirates Airlines has successfully conducted its first test flight using a sustainable fuel-powered aircraft. According to a post by Al Khaleej newspaper, on January 30, Emirates operated a test flight with one of its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, equipped with GE90 engines, using 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in one of the engines.

The mentioned aircraft took off from Dubai International Airport on January 30, piloted by Captain Khalid Nasser Akram and Captain Vali Vajidhar, and flew for over an hour along the coast of Dubai. The newspaper highlighted that this initiative by Emirates, in partnership with industry leaders, contributes to advancing the efforts of the commercial aviation sector towards sustainable operations and reducing reliance on conventional fuel. The flight supports the collective industry efforts to enable a future of 100% sustainable aviation fuel and also contributes to the sustainability goals of the UAE.

The newspaper also stated that Emirates' test flight is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa to operate with 100% sustainable fuel, supporting efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The industry looks forward to expanding the use of this type of fuel to help improve operational frameworks for sustainable fuel offerings in the future.
