Is Gas Following the Path of Gasoline and Diesel?

The nightmares of the Lebanese people do not end, with the complete lifting of subsidies on gasoline occurring just days ago, leading to the dollarization of the material, similar to what happened previously with diesel. Therefore, only gas remains, as it is not priced according to the black market dollar. Is this sector soon going to follow the similar path of gasoline and diesel and shift toward dollarization as well?

In this context, the head of the Syndicate of Workers and Distributors in the Gas Sector and its Accessories, Farid Zenon, is calling for the dollarization of the sector, especially as the dollar price has surged past 37,000 Lebanese pounds. He pointed out that "in the case of dollarization, the customer pays either in 'fresh' dollars or in Lebanese pounds but according to the black market price, all to simplify matters, avoid queues, and eliminate the losses we incur."

He adds in an interview with MTV: "We were promised that the issue would be resolved on Monday, but that did not happen," noting that if gas is dollarized, its price would be around 9 to 10 dollars. Zenon reassures the Lebanese that "there is currently no crisis, and things are normal; the material will not run out from the market," explaining that "the price of gas in Lebanon is affected by the global barrel price and the black market dollar."

He confirms that "Lebanon will not be affected by the global gas crisis because we consume 250,000 tons annually and we have not been affected by what is happening in Russia and Ukraine. Lebanon mainly imports gas from Greece and Algeria, currently specifically from Greece; thus, there is no problem unless we experience a global crisis." Zenon hopes for a solution to the problem as winter approaches, and with electricity cuts and rising diesel prices, people are turning to gas for heating, wishing for the state to support the material in the coming three months.
