The Japanese news agency "Kyodo" reported today that "Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered the Coast Guard to enhance its activity" to assert China's sovereignty over islands in the East China Sea, which are controlled by Tokyo and claimed by Beijing. Kyodo stated: "The Coast Guard responded to instructions issued in November to create a plan to send its ships near the small islands, known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, daily throughout 2024, and to conduct field inspections of Japanese fishing vessels if necessary."
