Maronite League: We Will Not Allow the People of Rmeish to Be Displaced

The Maronite League called on the "Lebanese government to assign security forces to control the situation in the town of Rmeish and its surroundings, due to developments that may arise from the repeated attempts by Syrian refugees coming from other areas to forcibly enter Rmeish against the will of its residents and municipal council. The town is already suffering from an overflow of Syrian numbers, in addition to the negative repercussions on all levels that may occur, especially in terms of security, which poses a significant danger."

In a statement, it noted, "At a time when the ability of the town's residents to withstand the economic and living crisis in these difficult conditions has diminished, international organizations and associations are providing assistance to Syrians and distributing food supplies before the eyes of the townspeople since the onset of the war in occupied Palestine. Meanwhile, the Lebanese state, its ministries, and institutions are absent and indifferent to what is happening there, leaving the people to their fate."

The league declared that it "will not allow the residents of the largest Maronite town in the south to face displacement or need, as they have historically rejected leaving their land and are firmly attached to their existence and history."
