Observatory: Shelling Targets

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the Koniko gas field in the Deir ez-Zor countryside was hit by rocket fire originating from areas controlled by the Syrian army and Iranian forces stationed in the city of Deir ez-Zor. In response, the "International Coalition" aircraft targeted Iranian positions in the Al-‘Amal neighborhood and Harabesh neighborhood in Deir ez-Zor, where loud explosions were heard in the city. Sources in the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside told RT that shelling from the west of the Euphrates targeted the Koniko field, which hosts the largest American base in Syria, with 15 rockets. The sources confirmed that a fire broke out in the Koniko field and mentioned unconfirmed reports of injuries to American soldiers and contractors. Syrian media confirmed hearing bursts of rocket fire in eastern Deir ez-Zor. The sources noted that the Koniko gas field includes an American base and the Al-Omar oil field, both of which are among the largest oil and gas fields in Syria. In a statement, Iranian-aligned forces in Syria warned that they have the "upper hand" to respond to any further American strikes on their positions, following mutual strikes in Syria over the past 24 hours. The Iranian advisory center in Syria stated that the American strikes resulted in several casualties and injuries among fighters, without specifying their nationalities. In his comments on the ongoing events, U.S. President Joe Biden remarked on the American strike in Syria: "We do not seek confrontation" with Iran.
