Perseid Meteor Shower in Jordan's Sky

Perseid Meteor Shower in Jordan's Sky

A Jordanian astronomer predicted that the sky over the Kingdom and the Arab world will witness a meteor shower of the Perseids on the nights of August 12 and 13. This is one of the most intense meteor showers of the year.

The "Wadi Rum Um Dami" observatory noted that the meteors can be clearly seen with the naked eye, without the need for a telescope or observation tools, appearing like fireworks in the sky.

It is recommended to observe the meteors in dark locations away from artificial lights, such as Wadi Rum in the south of the Kingdom, as well as desert and rural areas, which are among the best spots for viewing, where the meteors will appear more spectacular and beautiful.

Additionally, some tourism agencies are preparing to organize an astronomical camp in Wadi Rum to observe the Perseids and the planets through telescopes.

The meteors are formed when dust particles enter the Earth's atmosphere at a very high speed, averaging 70 kilometers per second. The friction with the atmosphere generates high temperatures, causing them to glow and appear as bright, fiery arrows for a brief moment before extinguishing.
