Re-Election of Chinese Qu Dongyu as Director-General of FAO

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announced the re-election of Chinese Qu Dongyu as its Director-General for a second term. According to the Italian news agency, Qu, the sole candidate for the position, was re-elected with a majority of 168 votes out of 182 in a secret ballot at the organization's biennial ministerial conference. He will hold this position from August 1, 2023, until July 31, 2027. During Qu Dongyu's first term, which began in 2017, FAO, based in Rome, Italy, focused on enhancing science and innovation and launched several strategic initiatives.
