Turkish Scientist Warns of a Catastrophic Earthquake with a Magnitude of 7.6

Turkish seismologist Naci Görür has issued a warning about the potential for a devastating earthquake in Istanbul that could result in the deaths of up to 2.5 million people. He emphasized that this is "not a joke," noting that it is approaching step by step and is expected to range in magnitude between 7.2 and 7.6 on the Richter scale. Görür bases his predictions on scientific studies, stating that if it occurs, the damage will be significant, surpassing that of the earthquake in Şıra in February in the south of the country. He questioned the measures the Turkish government has taken to prepare for this potential earthquake, pointing out that the destructive impact could be immense and could lead to the death of millions.

In related news, Turkish Minister of Environment, Urban Planning and Climate Change, Mehmet Özhaseki, announced that work will begin next week on an urban transformation plan for 1.5 million buildings in Istanbul, coinciding with the risks these buildings face from the anticipated earthquake.
