A spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry indicated today, Thursday, that "Germany and its partners in the European Union are considering whether they can undertake a new maritime mission to protect commercial vessels at risk of attack in the Red Sea." The spokesperson stated, "The German government is prepared for this. It is important for the European Union to be able to act as quickly as possible in light of the ongoing attacks," adding that "no decision has been made on this matter yet." The Iran-aligned Houthi rebels have attacked dozens of vessels with missiles and drones since November 19, in response to the war being waged by Israel against the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement (Hamas) in Gaza, which followed the attack carried out by Hamas on southern Israel on October 7.
