Russia Announces Downing of British 'Storm Shadow' Missile

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today, Monday, for the first time, that it has shot down a long-range (Storm Shadow) missile obtained by Ukraine from Britain, which announced last week that it would provide these missiles.

In a daily briefing about the conflict in Ukraine, the ministry stated that it had downed the missile, which is a cruise missile, as well as shorter-range missiles fired from American HIMARS launchers and HARM missiles.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated today, Monday, that Russia views Britain’s decision to supply Kyiv with missiles "very negatively."

Moscow announced yesterday, Sunday, that Ukraine used the missiles to strike industrial sites in the city of Luhansk, which is controlled by Russia in eastern Ukraine.

Britain is the first country to announce the provision of long-range cruise missiles to Kyiv, which would allow Ukrainian forces to target Russian troops and supply depots at locations far from the front lines as preparations are made for a large counter-offensive.
