Maronite Patriarch Bechara Raï stated today, Sunday, that Lebanon as a state is disintegrating due to the stubbornness of some politicians and their personal and factional interests. During a mass commemorating Saint John the Baptist on the anniversary of his birth, Raï emphasized that the process of electing a president for the republic is very simple if the parliament follows the proper path. He said, "It is easy and straightforward, I mean by applying the constitution which states that Lebanon is a parliamentary democratic republic." Raï pointed out that the people of Lebanon are increasingly deprived because of politicians who neglect all the country’s capabilities and resources, stating, "They alone are responsible for impoverishing the people of Lebanon, humiliating them, forcing them to leave their homeland, and starving them."
