Niger's President Mohamed Bazoum has turned to the United States and the international community, requesting assistance in restoring constitutional order in the country. In an article published in the Washington Post, Bazoum stated, "At this time of need, I call on the U.S. government and the entire international community to help us restore constitutional order. The only way to make meaningful progress in combating poverty and terrorism is to fight together for our shared values, including pluralistic democracy and respect for the rule of law." Bazoum also mentioned that the success of the coup would have repercussions beyond Niger's borders. Meanwhile, Senegal announced that its forces are ready for military intervention to free the detained president, and Mauritania declared its readiness for military intervention in Niger if necessary. Benin believes that Niger's president is abducted and should be liberated through military intervention as part of the West African forces.
