In a statement released by the police, reported by the "Novosti" agency, it was mentioned: "The Akwesasne police will seek assistance from their colleagues in Quebec and Ontario in their investigation, particularly regarding the results of the autopsies and toxicology tests to determine the cause of death. The identification of the deceased and their presence on Canadian territory is also being established. The police do not see any threat to the safety of local residents due to the incident." Additionally, the "CBC" channel reported that one of the deceased was a child who held a Canadian passport. The bodies were discovered by the Coast Guard during aerial reconnaissance operations at the request of the Akwesasne regional police, who had received an alert about a missing person.
