According to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Qin Gang informed US Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a phone call on Wednesday that the United States must cease its interference in China's internal affairs. Qin expressed hope that the US and China could reach compromises and that Washington would effectively manage the disputes between them while enhancing communication and cooperation. He also stated that the US should take into account China's fundamental concerns, such as the Taiwan issue, and expressed his hope for the stabilization of China-US relations, returning them to a path of steady and sound development.
This high-level discussion comes ahead of Blinken's scheduled visit to Beijing, aimed at easing tensions between the two countries regarding several issues, including allegations of spying and disputes over semiconductors. The Chinese Foreign Ministry is set to announce details of Blinken's visit, while a US official mentioned last Friday that Blinken would be in Beijing on June 18, without providing further details. Blinken had previously canceled a scheduled trip to Beijing in February, which was planned to be the first visit by a US Secretary of State to China in five years, due to a suspected Chinese spy balloon flying over US airspace.
