Title: Authorities in Portugal Control Forest Fire

Authorities in Portugal have controlled a large fire that broke out earlier this week, which affected thousands of hectares of forest in the southern part of the country. However, officials state that firefighting teams are still in the area in case the flames reignite. On Wednesday, the regional commander of the Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, Vitor Vaz Pinto, reported that "the fire in the municipality of Odemira in the Alentejo region was extinguished at 10:15 AM local time (09:15 GMT)." Weather conditions contributed to the fire spreading south toward the Algarve region, one of Portugal's main tourist destinations, prompting the evacuation of about 1,400 people.
