A judiciary spokesman in Tunisia announced today, Tuesday, that a Tunisian man was killed following clashes between local residents and migrants from Sub-Saharan African countries in the city of Sfax. The spokesman for the Sfax Court of First Instance, Fawzi Al-Masmoudi, stated that the police arrested three Africans suspected of being responsible for the murder of the Tunisian man. Al-Masmoudi added that the killing followed nights of clashes in the city between residents and migrants who are illegally settled there. Over the past two nights, police used tear gas to disperse the clashes. Residents complain about abuses, riots, and chaos caused by the migrants in the city. Migrants claim they are facing racial harassment from some residents. Tunisia is under significant European pressure to prevent the large numbers of migrants from departing its shores. European countries have pledged financial support to assist the country, but Tunisian President Kais Saied affirmed that "Tunisia will not be a border guard for Europe and will not accept the settlement of migrants on its territory."
