Security and medical sources announced that 14 people were killed and 25 others were injured in a collision between a public transport bus and a heavy truck in the Naqab area on the Kharga-Asyut road in the New Valley Governorate, Egypt. The injured were transported to Kharga Specialized Hospital.
The sources indicated that a security alert was sent to the New Valley Security Director informing him of a collision involving a bus from the Upper Egypt Transport Company that occurred at 7 a.m., which was coming from Dakhla and heading to Cairo.
Seventeen ambulances and civil defense units were dispatched to transport the deceased and the injured from the accident site. The Governor of the New Valley had suspended the movement of heavy transport vehicles on the "Dakhla/Kharga/Asyut" road from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. starting today, to safeguard citizens' lives, due to the frequent road accidents caused by the recklessness of some heavy vehicle drivers.
The governor instructed center heads and traffic officials to monitor the enforcement of the decision and intensify traffic campaigns to check for drug use and ensure that vehicles have warning signs and reflectors, adhere to the prescribed loads, and maintain valid licenses.
The governor urged all drivers to exercise caution and adhere to the specified speed limits to ensure everyone's safety and prevent the recurrence of such accidents.
