The Chinese embassy in Norway announced today that China "strongly opposes" NATO's repeated characterization of it as a threat, referencing statements made by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg during a recent visit to Norway.
The embassy stated, "China urges NATO to stop provoking regional conflicts and sowing divisions and disturbances," adding that Stoltenberg accused China of threatening neighboring countries and suppressing those that do not comply.
It pointed out that "NATO claims to be a regional and defensive organization, but certain members of the alliance consistently exceed traditional defense areas, frequently engaging in close military contacts with countries in the Asia-Pacific region, which escalates tensions."
The statement concluded, "It is clear to the international community who the real threat to regional and global peace is."
