Red Cross: Medical Supplies Arrive at Shifa Hospital Despite Shelling

The International Committee of the Red Cross announced that a humanitarian convoy was shot at in Gaza City today, Tuesday, but managed to deliver medical supplies to Shifa Hospital. It added that two trucks were damaged, and one driver sustained minor injuries. The committee stated that the convoy included five trucks and two vehicles belonging to the committee, which were carrying "life-saving medical supplies to health facilities, including the Al-Quds Hospital run by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society when the shooting occurred." The committee did not specify the source of the gunfire. It mentioned that the convoy changed its route after the incident and arrived at Shifa Hospital where it delivered the medical supplies, adding that the convoy then escorted six ambulances carrying severely injured patients to the Rafah crossing from Gaza to Egypt. William Schumberg, head of the sub-delegation of the International Committee in Gaza, said, "These conditions are not conducive for the work of relief staff... Ensuring the delivery of vital aid to medical facilities is a legal obligation under international humanitarian law." The International Committee of the Red Cross, a neutral organization based in Geneva, accompanies patients and transports released hostages out of Gaza.
