The wife of Syrian artist Basel Ya'khour, writer Rana Hariri, commented on the rumors surrounding her separation from her husband, indicating that the matter is personal and that no one has the right to know about it. She wrote through the story feature on Instagram: "Since I know that my private life has suddenly become the focus of attention, please allow me to redirect your interest to more important issues than me, my life, or anyone else’s; issues that you all need to speak about, as they truly need your voices and attention, and all possible media coverage."
She added: "Perhaps we all have started to use social media sometimes as a vent, and I understand that following others' lives can be entertaining and amusing for some, but I apologize as I will not satisfy your curiosity; my private life is my own."
She concluded by saying: "I am fine, and my life will continue regardless, but there are others who are not fine, and who need your support more than I do."
