The Wall Street Journal reported that resignations in the U.S. House of Representatives have reached their highest level in 12 years. The newspaper noted that a group of legislators, six Democrats and six Republicans, announced their intention not to continue their work in Congress this November, representing the largest number since 2011. It added that in October, hardliners succeeded in ousting Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and criticized his successor, Mike Johnson. The increase in resignations in the House is attributed to ongoing "painful internal party conflict" among Republicans over government spending issues.
