A spokesperson for the German Ministry of the Interior indicated today, Monday, that "Germany intends to extend border controls with Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland until December 15 to curb a wave of migration and combat human trafficking." During a regular press conference in Berlin, the spokesperson stated: "Germany will inform the European Commission of the extension." He added: "The ministry believes that strict police measures at the Polish border should continue in particular," clarifying that "these measures have prevented the unauthorized entry of around 1,100 individuals across the border since they came into effect on October 16." Germany announced the implementation of stricter controls at its land borders with Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland following a sharp increase this year in first-time asylum applications.
