Macron: The Military Council in Niger is Holding the French Ambassador Hostage

French President Emmanuel Macron announced today, Friday, that his country's ambassador to Niger is being held hostage in the French embassy by the military council that has taken power in the West African nation. Macron added in remarks to reporters during a visit to Burgundy, "As we speak, we have an ambassador and diplomats literally being held hostage in the French embassy, and the entry of food is being prevented. They are eating meals intended for the military."
