The South African Minister of Trade announced today, Monday, that the country's automotive sector is likely to produce its first electric vehicle in 2026, as part of efforts to transition to environmentally friendly transportation. The use of electric transportation is a key component of South Africa's energy transition plan aimed at establishing a low-carbon economy capable of addressing climate change. The energy transition plan requires an investment of 128.1 billion rand (6.84 billion dollars) in the transportation sector from 2023 to 2027 to effectively contribute to South Africa's commitments to reduce carbon emissions.
