Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid held an emergency security meeting today, Sunday, with his predecessor Naftali Bennett, Defense Minister Benny Gantz, and some security officials to discuss the progress in negotiations with Lebanon regarding maritime border demarcation through American mediator Amos Hochstein. The Israeli Channel 13 reported today that Lapid anticipated reaching an agreement with Lebanon concerning the border demarcation soon, possibly within the next two weeks.
Earlier on Sunday, Lapid threatened covert operations against the Lebanese "Hezbollah." In an interview with the Hebrew website "Walla," he stated, "My country conducts covert operations against Hezbollah, and there is no need to go to war following every new threat from the Lebanese party," noting that "there are always compromises." He indicated that "among his country's middle-ground solutions is the 'war between wars,' with covert operations also being one of those solutions." He mentioned that "if the threat from Hezbollah's Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, becomes serious and real, and cannot be contained, then the Israeli army will have to respond at that time."
