The Moldova Railways announced that "six grain cars from a train consisting of 61 cars, which was headed to a river port in Ukraine, derailed yesterday, Saturday, after extreme temperatures weakened the tracks." In a statement, it revealed that "the initial cause of the incident is extremely high temperatures, which caused the railways to lose their strength." It explained that "six cars carrying grain derailed while the train was on a section of the Colma-Sider-Lunga line on its way to Reni, a Ukrainian transport hub on the Danube River." Moldovan farmers typically export grains and oilseeds to Romania and Turkey, and they are preparing to export 800,000 tons of hard wheat from a total crop of 1.2 million tons this year.
