German Chancellor Announces Launch of Climate Club

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced today, Friday, the establishment of an international club to assist developing countries in investing in the decarbonization of industries that are difficult to reduce emissions from, such as steel, cement, and aluminum. Speaking at the United Nations Climate Change Conference "COP28" in Dubai, he stated that "the so-called Climate Club currently includes 36 members and aims to accelerate technical work for a unified calculation of carbon dioxide intensity in specific products." Scholz mentioned that "the club will also create a platform to align the needs of members with technical and financial tools from the private and public sectors."
