Ukraine: Russia May Soon Launch a Major Recruitment Campaign

The Ukrainian army indicated today, Monday, that "Russia may soon initiate a large mobilization campaign, attempting to recruit hundreds of thousands of soldiers from within Russia and Ukraine." The Ukrainian General Staff stated in its report on the battlefield situation, "A mass forced mobilization of the population is expected soon in the Russian Federation and in temporarily occupied territories in Ukraine, due to the catastrophic losses incurred by the occupiers." The statement added, "The mobilization campaign may target between 400,000 and 700,000 recruits, relying on various estimates," noting that "the number of Russians recruited in Moscow and St. Petersburg will remain 'minimal,' while there will be an increased reliance on Russians from regions outside the two major Russian cities."
