"Progressive Party": We Condemn All Provocative Speech That Incites Sectarianism and Confessionalism

The "Progressive Socialist Party" affirmed in a statement today, Friday, its principled political position in support of the Syrian people's revolution and their legitimate, unified demands for freedom, justice, and dignity. It condemned any inciting speech that provokes sectarian and confessional tensions, such as that expressed by Marwan Kwayan and some others, which aims to distort the image of the ongoing movement in Sweida, as well as in other Syrian regions.

The party renews its salute to "His Eminence Sheikh of the Druze community, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri," for his commitment to the unity of the Syrian people and Syria as a whole, and for being alert to the potential exploitation of this movement by those with sectarian division projects and attempts to ignite sectarian and regional strife.

Additionally, the party notes the positions and clarifications expressed by activist Maher Sharaf al-Din, which correctly contextualize the movements of the people of Sweida within the national and political framework, in confronting the tyranny of the regime, and in rejecting both strife and division alike.
