British Tennis Union Dismisses Waseem Haq Over Controversial Post

The British Tennis Union board has dismissed council member Waseem Haq after he made a post linking Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. Haq describes himself as a golf consultant to Saudi Arabia and is a partner at "First Team Partners," a research company specializing in sports, media, and entertainment sectors.

Haq, who is also a member of the English Football Association and the Golf Union, wrote on his personal account on "X": "Netanyahu has sacrificed his people to maintain power... Adolf Hitler would be proud of Benjamin Netanyahu," before later deleting the post and issuing an apology following significant backlash.

Haq was appointed to serve on the boards of Tennis and Football as a representative of "diverse communities." The tennis union stated: "The board considered this matter today and agreed that Waseem Haq's post on November 11th is unacceptable and does not reflect the union's position or values in any way, and therefore the board has agreed to remove him from his role as an independent advisor effective immediately."

After deleting the post, Haq later wrote: "I have been informed that the post I published yesterday caused offense... I have deleted it and unreservedly apologize to anyone who felt insulted."
