Are We Witnessing a Deterioration in Security?

Former Minister Marwan Charbel emphasized that the constitution mandates the election of a new president rather than an appointment. "Therefore, it is the duty of the MPs instead of seeking a settlement to convene in the council until one of the candidates can reach the presidency," he stated, calling for the implementation of the Taif Agreement. He added, "If there are those who do not want the Taif Agreement, then we must move towards a new system." In an interview with "Voice of Lebanon," Charbel expressed regret over the reliance on external signals at every juncture, holding the entire parliament, including the reformist and new MPs, responsible for the ongoing void. He reassured that there is no fear for the security situation, which will remain under control, asserting that "the situation cannot worsen beyond what it is now."
