The Minister of Public Works and Transport in the caretaker government, Ali Hamiyeh, chaired an extensive meeting this morning, Tuesday, at Rafic Hariri International Airport – Beirut, as the head of the permanent committee tasked with studying and proposing ways and means to improve security measures and procedures at the airport. The meeting was held with the General Director of the Civil Aviation Authority, Engineer Fadi Hassan, the airport security chief Brigadier General Fadi Kfoury, the head of public security at the airport Brigadier General Johnny Al-Sayysah, the airport gendarmerie company commander Brigadier General Ezzat Al-Khateeb, and the head of the airport customs department Samer Dia, along with the heads of relevant departments in the General Directorate of Civil Aviation and the participation of several military and security officers working at the airport.
The discussion focused on "the general and detailed lines of measures for all administrations, departments, and agencies operating at the airport, as well as the precautionary measures that must be taken and implemented during any exceptional circumstances in the country." Minister Hamiyeh emphasized during the meeting that "Rafic Hariri International Airport – Beirut is Lebanon's only air gateway to the world, and the continuous and integrated efforts among all stakeholders and workers in this vital facility constitute a national responsibility that falls on everyone." He praised "the detailed explanations provided by the legal authorities regarding the procedures and measures that must be taken in any exceptional circumstances that the country or the airport may face."
Hamiyeh pointed out a critically important point, which is that all recommended actions must comply with legal protocols in all exceptional circumstances that may arise in the country. He stressed the importance of "continuing coordination and integration between the administrative and security agencies at the airport."
