Data from the UK's Office for National Statistics revealed today, Friday, that "the British economy grew by 0.1 percent in the first quarter of this year, unchanged from preliminary estimates published last month." The office stated, "The GDP in the first quarter of this year was 0.5 percent lower compared to the last quarter of 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, and this figure also aligns with previous estimates." The recovery of the British economy since the COVID-19 pandemic has been much slower than almost all major advanced economies, although Germany is also struggling, with its economy in the first quarter being 0.5 percent less than it was before the pandemic. The Bank of England predicted last month that the British economy would grow by only 0.25 percent this year.
