United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stated today, Sunday, that he is "deeply shocked by the killing and wounding of dozens, including women and children, due to the bombing of two UN-run schools in less than 24 hours in the Gaza Strip." He added that the victims "were seeking safety in United Nations buildings." In a statement, he continued, "Hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians are seeking shelter in UN facilities across Gaza due to the intensification of fighting. I reiterate that the sanctity of UN buildings must not be violated." He noted that the war between Israel and "Hamas" has caused a "shocking and unacceptable number of civilian casualties," once again calling for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons.
