The World Health Organization (WHO) issued a call today, Monday, for $1.5 billion to address the health needs of millions of people suffering in dozens of humanitarian crises around the world. WHO's Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated, "We aim to deliver life-saving humanitarian assistance to approximately 87 million people this year." He added, "To do this, we need a total support of $1.5 billion, and we need this funding to arrive as soon as possible and with as much flexibility as possible... A reactive approach is not enough." Tedros noted that "an estimated 166 million people will need health assistance worldwide this year, including in the occupied Palestinian territories, Ukraine, Haiti, and Sudan."
