The Dutch waterways and public works administration, along with media reports, indicated that a burning car carrier is being towed away from the country's coast to another location away from shipping routes as part of a challenging operation to manage the vessel. The administration stated in a report on Sunday that "the ship will be towed to a site 16 kilometers north of the Dutch islands of Ameland and Schiermonnikoog." The Japanese company "Shoei Kisen," which owns the vessel, reported that the crew consists entirely of 21 Indian members. A spokesperson for the waterways administration told the Dutch news agency that "the ship in the temporary new location will be far from shipping lanes and will also be better protected from the winds." The spokesperson added that the towing operation is an intermediate step in the difficult salvage process. The fire aboard the "Fremantle Highway," which is registered in Panama and was transporting new cars, resulted in the death of one Indian crew member and injured seven others who jumped overboard to escape the flames.
