Member of the "Strong Republic" bloc, MP George Okais, wrote on the platform "X": "If the information about closing the investigation file into the assassination of Elias Al-Hasrouni is accurate, it means several things: 1- That murder has become legalized in Lebanon. 2- That impunity has become a norm. 3- That security and judicial authorities have become ineffective. 4- That Lebanon now needs direct international protection, not just peacekeeping forces that are attacked by 'locals' whenever they please."
He added: "All of this raises the question of the usefulness of the presidential elections, the agreement with the IMF, reforms, and other pressing issues in light of the absence of a state, the collapse of institutions, and the absence of law. All of this will place us, as sovereign forces, in front of history with the responsibility of not openly calling for immediate international protection, at a time when our homeland is being emptied of its youth and competencies and is instead filled with Syrian refugees who are buoyed by UN funds that reek of conspiracy, and Palestinian refugees whose internal conflicts' bullets are targeting our crumbling nation."
