Taiwanese Military Drills at Main Airport to Simulate Response to Attack

Taiwan conducted military drills at its main international airport for the first time today, Wednesday, to simulate repelling an invading force as China intensifies its military pressure to force the island into accepting its sovereignty. The exercise took place at Taoyuan International Airport as part of the annual Han Kuang training, which began on Monday, focusing on protecting infrastructure and targeting incoming enemy ships to keep key waterways open. The Ministry of Defense stated that "the drills involved six helicopters, including Apache attack helicopters, and about 180 soldiers to simulate repelling an enemy force that seized control of the airport's air traffic control facilities." Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen pointed out that "Taiwan must strengthen its capabilities in anticipation of emergencies." She added, "We must continue to enhance Taiwan's resilience against disasters so that when we face threats, we can recover quickly and minimize the impact of operational disruptions."
