Authorities in the Spanish island of Tenerife evacuated around three thousand people from their homes overnight as a wildfire broke out due to rising temperatures and strong winds, in an area that had already been scorched in August. Emergency services noted today, Thursday, that they "requested assistance from the military emergency unit," identifying the fire that ignited yesterday as a high-level emergency situation. The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, stated that "the August fire was under control but not completely extinguished," adding that firefighting efforts overnight "went well." The island, located in the Atlantic Ocean off Africa's northwestern coast, is on alert for high temperatures expected to reach 39 degrees Celsius throughout the day.
