Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed on Wednesday that the company's app "Threads" will see the addition of new features, such as the ability to share posts through Instagram direct messages, in an effort to retain users. Zuckerberg noted in a post today that the new updates will also include a button to facilitate tagging someone in Threads.
Threads, which competes with the platform previously known as Twitter, has lost more than half of its users in the weeks following its initial launch. The app surpassed 100 million subscribers within five days of its launch in early July. Production chief Chris Cox mentioned in a meeting in July, which Reuters listened to a recording of, that "Meta is considering adding more ways to re-engage users, such as ensuring that important Threads posts appear while scrolling through the Instagram feed."
The company is also looking to add a search option and provide a web version of the Threads app in the coming weeks.
