North Korea organized massive rallies in Pyongyang, where people chanted slogans pledging to “wage retaliatory war” to destroy the United States, marking the 73rd anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. The Korean Central News Agency reported that “about 120,000 workers participated in the gatherings held across the capital yesterday, Sunday.”
The commemoration comes amid concerns that Pyongyang may soon launch its first military reconnaissance satellite to enhance monitoring of U.S. military activities after its first attempt ended in failure on May 31. The agency stated that North Korea “now possesses the strongest weapon to punish American colonizers.”
In a separate report from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, North Korea indicated that “the United States is making desperate efforts to ignite a nuclear war.”
