U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Mark Milley stated on Friday that "it is essential for the United States and its allies to accelerate the delivery of weapons to Taiwan in the coming years to help the island defend itself." Milley said, "The speed at which we, the U.S., or other countries assist Taiwan in improving its defensive capabilities needs to be accelerated in the coming years." He added, "Taiwan needs weapons such as air defense systems and weapons that can target ships from the shore." Milley pointed out that "relations between the United States and China have severely deteriorated, and recent diplomatic meetings, including between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Chinese top diplomat Wang Yi, were important to reduce the chances of escalation." He continued, "The United States is considering whether it needs to change the location of some U.S. forces within the Asia-Pacific region."
