Romania Discovers New Drone Fragments on Its Territory

The Romanian Ministry of Defense announced today, Saturday, that new fragments of a drone similar to those used by the Russian army have been found within Romania's territory. President Klaus Iohannis stated that "this indicates an unacceptable violation of the country's airspace." He added in a statement that he informed NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg about the discovery of the drone fragments, marking the second drone to crash in Romanian territory within days.

Iohannis stated that Stoltenberg reaffirmed NATO's full solidarity with Romania. He mentioned that "the discovery of new drone fragments by authorities on Romanian territory near the border with Ukraine... indicates an unacceptable violation of Romania's airspace, a NATO member state, with real risks to the safety of Romanian citizens in the region."

He strongly condemned this "incident resulting from Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports along the Danube River." For his part, Stoltenberg noted that "Russian strikes near the border destabilize the area, even though there is no indication that Russia deliberately targeted a NATO member state." He announced in a message on the platform X that he "welcomes the United States' decision to send F-16 fighter jets to enhance air surveillance."
