Dutch earthquake scientist Frank Hoogerbeets has warned about the amount of explosives that Israel has dropped on Gaza since the outbreak of war on October 7, stating that this could lead to a significant earthquake in the region. The controversial Dutch scientist said on his "X" (formerly Twitter) account: "The world should force Israel to stop this insanity. Apart from the genocide against Palestinians, this bombing will eventually have a great seismic effect on the region and accelerate major earthquake occurrences along the Dead Sea transform."
In response to this warning, Dr. Ahmed Al-Mahmoudi, a professor of applied geophysics in the Department of Geology at Mansoura University, stated that there are industrial explosions that can match the strength of earthquakes, which some major powers use during wars, causing destruction similar to that of earthquakes. He added to "Al Arabiya.net" that the bombs being used to bomb the Gaza Strip do not reach the same intensity as earthquakes or industrial explosions, but they can cause some distortions in the soil and the Earth's crust.
