White Kaufman, a 13-year-old, survived after falling from a height exceeding 30 meters (100 feet) during a family trip to the Grand Canyon in the United States. Authorities say that emergency crews took two hours to rescue White Kaufman after he slipped from the edge of a cliff and fell about 100 feet (30 meters) on the Bright Angel Point trail.
It was reported that the teenager was airlifted to a hospital in Las Vegas for treatment. He suffered from nine broken vertebrae, a ruptured spleen, a collapsed lung, a concussion, a broken hand, and a dislocated finger. White Kaufman told KPNX, a Phoenix television station: "I was at the edge of the canyon and moved to let people take pictures. I sat on the ground and held onto a rock, only placing one hand on it. I didn't grip properly, lost my balance, and fell." Kaufman, who lives in Castleton, North Dakota, said: "I only remember waking up in an ambulance and then in the helicopter and then in the hospital."
